The Calyx Porcelain and Paint Company would go on to produce handcrafted china, pottery and tableware. The products were originally fired in large bottle kilns, until the 1950’s when the facility built the first tunnel kilns in Australia. Raw materials were sourced locally and motifs were hand painted by a select group of local artists, including Philippa Nikulinsky.

Located just five kilometres from the Perth CBD, Subiaco is a West Australian icon. Quiet yet vibrant, historic yet contemporary, its leafy residential streets parade beautiful heritage homes set amidst a culturally rich backdrop of boutiques, art galleries, street markets, theatre, award-winning restaurants, and a heaving high street hotel.
Its latest iteration continues to attract the who’s who of Perth hospitality dignitaries, bringing the streets alive with new bars and eateries. Leigh Power and Benny Tua (Mechanics Institute, the Old Synagogue bars) have brought contemporary Asian cuisine to Subiaco with Shui. Clint Nolan (Alabama Song, La Cholita) opened mod-Mexican cantina La Condesa in the old Oriel space on Hay Street.
